What is a hydraulic hose?

A hydraulic hose is a specialist hose used in industrial and commercial settings. Working in conjunction with hydraulic machinery, they connect valves, tools and actuators allowing fluids or gases to flow from one component to another.

They are typically made of synthetic rubber, thermoplastic material, or a combination of both, and are reinforced with one or more layers of braided wire, spiral-wound wire, or textile materials to provide strength and durability.

Hydraulic hoses comprise an inner tube within a reinforced layer and protective outer layers. The inner tube material is chosen to be compatible with the fluids, temperatures, pressures and impulses required of the hose. The outer layers are built up to suit the strength and durability required of the hose in its operating environment. A hydraulic hose’s composition must be robust enough to withstand both internal and external pressures.

The inner tube can be formed from synthetic rubber, P.T.F.E (commonly known as Teflon), or thermoplastics, depending on the properties and pressures of the fluids or gases within. The reinforcement can be made from single, multiple layers of braided wire, textile yarn or spiral-wound wire. The protective layer can be made of a range of resistant, repellent and flexible materials, depending on forces in the external environment.

Hydraulic hoses are designed to withstand high pressure and high temperatures, and to resist abrasion, corrosion, and deformation. They are available in a wide range of sizes, pressure ratings, and end fittings, to suit different applications and installations.

What is a hydraulic hose assembly?

A hydraulic hose assembly is a complete unit consisting of a hydraulic hose, ferrules, fittings, and any other necessary components, such as adapters, clamps, or protective covers, that are used to connect the hose to a hydraulic system.

Hydraulic hose assemblies are typically made to order based on the specific requirements of a particular application. They can be custom designed to fit the length, pressure rating, temperature range, and other specifications needed for a particular hydraulic system. At Hydroscand we assemble hoses to specific design requirements, i.e. assembled to drawing. We also assemble to pattern, meaning we can take a failed hose assemlby and make a new one to the exact same specification. 

The process of assembling a hydraulic hose assembly involves selecting the appropriate hose, ferrules, fittings, and components, and then cutting the hose to the desired length. The fittings are then crimped or to the hose ends using a crimping machine, and any additional components, such as adapters or protective covers, are installed as needed.
